Integrated Wellness: What You Should Know
There are many options available to us to heal our bodies from pain or illness, but there is only one approach that fully addresses every facet of your overall wellness. You might have heard the term “integrated wellness” before but been unsure exactly what it is. It’s a practice that combines acupuncture, kinesiology, psychology, homeopathy and nutrition to heal your body and mind. I’ve been practicing integrated wellness techniques for more than 20 years and have witnessed firsthand the transformative effects this comprehensive approach can have. The University of Arizona Weil Center for Integrative Medicine says this kind of practice “takes into account the whole person,” and ensures that not just your body heals, but you benefit psychologically and emotionally from integrative therapies. Here’s an overview of some of the individual practices that fall under integrated wellness:
- Chiropractic: A healing philosophy that centers on ways to adjust the spine back to alignment. This is to bring back normal neurological function to your nervous system — key to recovering from various conditions and restoring your overall health.
- Kinesiology: This is the study of the muscle and finding ways to check for gland and organ imbalances, structural muscular misalignments as well as proper nutrition and allergy treatments to keep your muscles healthy and strong.
- Quantum Neurology: This revolves around healing the nervous system from an illness or an injury of some kind. The practice tackles healing the nervous system through a variety of approaches, including sensory and motor therapies.
- Nutrition: Incorporating healthy, nutritious diets to a person’s day-to-day life is key to wellness. Creating a nutrition plan helps create a specific, tailored road map for recovery. There is a wide range of dietary options a person could take on, including vegetarianism, macrobiotic diets or healthy adjustments to the standard American omnivorous diet.
- Detox: Assessing the different toxins a person ingests through food and the environment is a way to spur healing. Figuring out what toxic materials might be in one’s diet, for instance, can help remove future toxic buildup in the body over time.
