Why Seeking a Holistic Chiropractor is the Best Way to Fight Pain

If you are in pain, if your body doesn’t seem to be serving you well, there are certainly a lot of outlets out there to spur your healing. That being said, finding a holistic chiropractor is often the best option at your disposal.

Chiropractic is a healing philosophy that centers on bringing your spine back into alignment. This has a big effect on your body since it regulates the nervous system back to normal neurological function. Why is this necessary? Think of this spinal re-alignment as hitting your body’s “reset button,” restoring your overall health. Oftentimes, people who have been in car accidents, suffered a sports injury, or dealt with the aches and pains of aging might seek out someone who specializes in this practice.

While less accepted by the medical mainstream in the past, holistic chiropractic practice is becoming more the norm. In fact, it’s backed up by science and can be the optimal choice for healing head, neck and back pain without having to rely on drugs or medications.

The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) published a roundup of recent peer-reviewed research that explores the benefits of this kind of healthcare. One 2019 BMJ Open study found that people who saw a chiropractor as their initial provider for low back pain relief showed 90 percent decreased chances of developing long-term opioid addictions.

In this light, holistic chiropractic practice can be seen to be on the front lines of fighting the opioid epidemic in the United States. It’s something that’s needed — the CDC reports that, in 2017 alone, more than 70,000 people died from drug overdoses. Nearly 68 percent of those deaths were tied to illicit or prescription opioid use.

At the end of the day, chiropractic is an open communication between you and your chiropractor. It’s about allowing a provider to respectfully and sensitively listen to you and what your body is saying. It’s about tackling the source of pain head on.

The ACA cites research that backs this up: “Chiropractic patients were found to be more satisfied with their back-care providers after four weeks of treatment than were medical patients. Results from observational studies suggested that back pain patients are more satisfied with chiropractic care than with medical care,” writes the authors of one 2002 study in the American Journal of Public Health.

Ultimately, it’s about finding the best way to bring your body back to health and free you from pain.
